is not only a talented stylist and colorist, she’s also our resident make-up artist! A West Village lifesaver for all kinds of special events, she will add a shimmery certain something with her elegant, natural approach to make-up. She never overdoes it—unless, of course, you want her to. Busy New Yorkers take note: Mel will save you time at the bathroom mirror and send you out the door with priceless confidence.
Mel sets aside a full hour for a full-face make-up appointment, and the price is $150. Throughout the holiday season, she is offering a 20% discount to Seagull regulars! Take advantage of this introductory deal, book it with a blow-out, and show up flawless to your December festivities!
Mel uses the highest-quality, light-weight products for wearable, long-lasting, photo-ready looks. Take it from our own Johanna Fateman, who put her face in Mel’s hands for her T Magazine
profile and was so sad to wash her face before bed, “Mel is the best!”
Once a young punk on the Lower East Side, Mel is now a polished, post-punk salon professional translating her experimental and edgy sensibility into bold but wearable looks for her sophisticated clientele. While vivid creative colors, pastels and every hue of platinum are her personal favorites, she also has a knack for intense reds, smoky brunettes and natural, sun-kissed balayage highlights. Her fans love her laid-back geometric cuts and loose layers and rule-breaking attitude. Mel does not believe that age or gender should pose any restrictions on personal style.
Mel is perceptive, accommodating, and friendly. A consultation with her will put you at ease about your cut or color—whether you are looking for a touch-up, a tweak, or a major change. Her priority is to create a style that you will be able to recreate and maintain at home. For some that means a lesson in brushwork and curling irons, for most it means a wash-and-wear cut that’s custom-designed to last. Her clients rave that they only need to see Mel every three or four months.
Mel graduated from the Aveda Advanced Academy in Downtown New York City at age 18 and has been working in top salons and high-pressure editorial situations ever since. She has worked for Rusk, L’Oréal, American Crew and with the Oscar Blandi team sharpening her skills and developing her fashion-world connections. She’s also worked backstage doing hair and make-up for countless runway shows.
